KEY STAGE 4

The GCSE course is a full GCSE course offering a range of skills which can be transferred directly into A-Level ICT.  The GCSE consists of 3 units; all 3 units combined are the equivalent of 1 GCSE.  The course is best suited to students who enjoy learning about the technical sides of ICT and applying this theory in practice.  The course is 60% coursework and 40% exam meaning that those taking the course need to have the ability to work on several projects at the same time

In Year 10 and 11, pupils who opt for the GCSE Course will attempt 2 Controlled Assessments, one in Year 10 and one in Year 11.  The Full Course GCSE is challenging but very enjoyable as it provides pupils with the opportunity to investigate the technology they use every single day.  The Course does require pupils to be both independent and responsible, keeping to deadlines whilst revising for the Examination.

All of the Units with the Course require the following Core Skills;

The Units which pupils will have the opportunity to take during Year 10 and 11 on the Full Course are;

  • Practical approach to real life situations

 

Unit 1 – Systems and Applications in ICT

 

  • Written Exam worth 40% of the entire
  • Externally assessed
  • 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete the Exam
  • 10 compulsory questions, 3 structure questions and 1 essay question

 

 

Unit 2 – Applying ICT

 

  • Controlled Assessment task worth 30% of entire Course
  • Taken in Year 10
  • Internally assessed by your Subject Teacher
  • 25 hours to complete the task

 

Unit 3 – Practical Problem Solving in ICT

 

  • Controlled Assessment task worth 30% of entire Course
  • Taken in Year 11
  • Internally assessed by your Subject Teacher
  • 25 hours to complete the task
